Learning Objectives

Core Economic Theory

Understand the decision-making process in market situations such as perfect competition, monopolistic competition, monopoly and oligopoly, along with welfare economics.

National Income & Growth

Comprehend national income, the classical and Keynesian theories of employment and the multiplier, and the distinction between economic growth and development.

Public & Policy Economics

Understand the role of government, public expenditure and taxation in correcting market failures, and analyse the agriculture, industry and finance dimensions of Indian economic policy.

Applied Research (Dissertation)

Apply learned economic principles to real problems through a research dissertation, including questionnaire/interview-schedule preparation and independent economic thinking.

Learning Outcomes

Monetary Economics

Familiarity with monetary theory, the quantity theory of money, monetary institutions and policy, international monetary economics and monetary policy in India.

International Economics

Understand the concept, need, significance and scope of international economics, approaches to international trade, global economic integration and international organisations.

Econometrics & Quantitative Methods

Basic econometrics knowledge – regression with qualitative independent variables and dynamic econometric time-series models – alongside quantitative techniques for empirical economic analysis.

Economic Research Methodology

Familiarity with economic research design, sampling techniques, classification, tabulation, correlation and index numbers as tools for independent research.

Advanced Indian Economy

Critical understanding of the Indian economy, able to engage with macro-level issues using theoretical grounding in macroeconomics and development.
